Woodward Chartered Surveyors recently hosted a meeting at Harrow on the Hill Head Office with Martin Shave of Topseal, specialists in GRP or fibreglass flat (or pitched) roofs.

Flat roofs sometimes receive a bad press because tradition coverings (Asphalt, Hot Bitumen etc.) have limited aesthetic appeal and lifespan.  They are also vulnerable to damage by heat, light, wear (tiles falling from a main roof or foot traffic) and leaks around details like rail posts, service risers, air vents etc.

Traditional materials are also hazardous to work with, requiring “torching” with a flame or heating of product like bitumen to very high temperature either on top of the building or hoisting.

There are now much safer cold applied liquid membranes, and GRP or fibreglass interested us greatly because it is safe to work with, fast to apply (labour cost saving), great for detailing and resistant to deterioration by heat, light and traffic, thereby providing a long life expectancy.

You can also have any colour you like or fashion it to replace lead, copper or a Green roof.

What’s not to like?  And you can be assured of its strength and waterproofing, they make boats out of it!

Don’t be surprised to see more of these smart new roofs in specifications by Woodward Chartered Surveyors  for both residential and commercial property.
