Marlow is a town and civil parish within Wycombe district in south Buckinghamshire, England. It is located on the River Thames, 4 miles (6.5 km) south-southwest of High Wycombe, 5 miles (8 km) west-northwest of Maidenhead and 33 miles (53 km) west of central London.

Until the Second World War Marlow was really just another sleepy Buckinghamshire village located on a bend in the River Thames. Its main central core centred around the High Street, Station Road and Chapel Street, (now the A4155) and is mainly characterised by principally brick built pretty Victorian cottages and larger Victorian villas with further similar aged housing north of the High Street between Oxford Road and Dean Street (B482). These areas allow easy access into town but still retain a genteel air of suburban tranquillity.

After the war the town, as many did, saw an explosion in new development and new housing was quickly built beyond the central core in Barn Farm and also south of Little Marlow Road the main approach road into Marlow now off the A404 Marlow Bypass during the 1950’s where classic 50’s style housing can be found. These developments essentially spread the town eastwards whilst 1950’s semi-detached housing including bungalows characterises Marlow Bottom centred on good primary schooling.

Further house development in the 1960’s occurred south of the station and also in a ‘ribbon’ manner both to the south and north of Henley Road westwards out of the town whilst low-level blocks of flats fronting the river were built about this time just along from Marlow Bridge that are popular with retirees.

More recently, sites within the town centre have been redeveloped to provide a mixture of houses and flats within Portland Gardens and Malthouse Way behind the High Street on older former warehouse and semi-industrial sites though in styles in keeping with the town’s historic core.

Postwar built premier housing can be found within Wethered Park and Beechwood Park both located to the west of the town centre where larger detached houses predominate.
