Leaseholders buying their freehold (known as Lease Enfranchisement) in Harrow had the cost slashed by around half by asking Chartered Surveyor Stephen Cornish  MA BSc (Hons) FRICS FFPWS to act for them.

How much it costs a flat owner and leaseholder to buy their freehold is a devilishly complicated calculation, based not just on the value of the flat, but the future value of money and terms of the lease.

In this case of two flat owners in Byron Road, Stephen Cornish calculated they should pay around £17,000.  The Landlord demanded no less than £32,000.

In the end, Stephen Cornish represented the leaseholders as an Expert Witness at the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.  The Tribunal largely agreed with Mr Cornish and set a premium of just £19,000, saving the flat owners a whopping £13,000.

If you are looking to buy your Freehold (Leasehold Enfranchisement), or extend your lease it pays to consult an expert Chartered Surveyor who specialises in these disciplines.  Woodward Chartered Surveyors, who also do structural surveys, have a fixed fee for Lease Extension Valuations and have many satisfied clients throughout London, Harrow, North West London and the South West Home Counties.
